NOC SERVICE PROVIDERS
Also known as a “network management
center”, a network operations center or NOC is one or more places from which
network management or network monitoring and control is exercised over a
telecommunication, computer or satellite network.
NOCs are employed by universities, business
organizations, government agencies and public utilities that oversee complex
networking environments requiring high availability. In order to avoid degraded
service, NOC personnel are there to monitor one or several networks for certain
conditions requiring special attention. More than one NOC may be operated by the
organizations either to manage various networks or to provide geographic
redundancy in the event of one site becoming unavailable.\
In order to ensure the smooth functioning
of the network, an NOC engineer has several duties to perform. They deal with
stuff such as network failures, power outages, DDoS attacks, as well as routing
black-holes. Basic roles such as support, remote hands, hardware configuration
(such as routers and firewalls, bought by a client) are also there of course.
The stability of the core network also has
to be ensured by the NOC engineers. They are also responsible for monitoring
the activities such as temperatures, network usage etc. Installation of equipments such as IP-PDU
setup, KVMs, rack installation, running cabling is also done by them.
